The Pod is a timber built, insulated hut designed to be used just like a tent but unlike a tent it is already set up on the site, ready for you to move in! With no tent to erect or pack away in the rain your holiday could just have become a lot less stressful. They are manufactured by a small firm in the south lakes and are the inspiration of a man known only as Ian. Some say he has a slightly pointy head.
Each Pod has plenty of headroom and a floor area of approximately 7 square metres - ample space for 2 people or even 2 adults and 2 children. The Pod is designed to accommodate the variable British weather with ample ventilation for the hot days and lamb's wool insulation for those chillier times - a wooden 'tent' for all seasons.
A Pod offers a higher level of security than a canvas tent. The Pods are a simple progression from the holiday under canvas; they offer a convenient alternative to the tent but retain all the ambiance of the 'camping holiday'.

The Quiet Bar!
The Quiet Bar is often described as the best campsite bar in Britain, the atmosphere in this building is without doubt, unique! To many the bar represents a great place to swap stories and tales about the day's events. The original building was erected in 1648 as an agricultural barn. It is attached to the farmhouse in the traditional Cumbrian Long barn style. The barn was rebuilt in 1752. The Barn was converted into a bar in the 1950s. Little has been changed to the main structure since the original conversion. Young children have their own room upstairs with a playhouse and soft play centre. Older children (and adults!) can play on the pool table.
Adjacent to the bar there is another games room with table football, air hockey, table tennis and a television room. Recent work includes a complete new Westmorland slate roof which boasts Scandinavian levels of thermal insulation, a new sandstone flag floor and carbon neutral heating. Life has never been as warm! The bar sells a good selection of beers headed up by ales brewed at the local Tirril Brewery. These include Red Barn Ale, Academy Ale and the latest offering - 'Wainwright Knew My Father' - an ale guaranteed to satisfy even the hardest of fell walkers! This year we have commissioned our own brew - 'The Quiet Pint' - which is available to purchase in the site shop.
All you need to bring is your camping gear - minus the tent. The Pods are completely empty on arrival.
They have a carpeted floor and a light wood interior. Those staying in a Pod can take advantage of all the other site facilities.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept dogs in the Pods, sorry.
You don't need to worry about taking down wet tents and drying before storing and there's no wind whip or flapping to keep you awake
The Pods also provide more privacy and security
There is a decking area for eating, sunbathing and chilling out
The Pods include all the benefits of an insulated structure in winter and heaters are included in the price, as are mains light and a power point for charging phones, etc.
The Pods are a massive hit with kids - it's a 'den' thing
